Giving back where it matters most
UK Power Networks employees are making a real difference in their local communities through the company's ‘donate a day’ scheme.
Vanessa Adeleye and Kate Flemming recently used their volunteer days to support organisations by making a positive impact in their local areas.
Vanessa and her team spent the day at St Elizabeth's Centre in Ipswich, helping with gardening and general outdoor maintenance. Their efforts helped create a cleaner, safer, and more enjoyable environment for the children and young people who attend the school.
St Elizabeth's Centre is an independent Suffolk charity delivering care to patients and their families living with progressive or life-limiting illnesses.
Vanessa said:
"I chose St Elizabeth's Hospice because I wanted to support a local charity that makes a real difference to the lives of people suffering from illnesses. For me, it was a meaningful way to give something back to the community.
"The day was incredibly rewarding. It felt good to know that our efforts would have a positive impact on the school and its students."
Kate also chose to spend her volunteering day supporting children and families by joining her team at St Nicholas Hospice in Bury St Edmunds.
During the day, the team washed garden paths, treated wooden play equipment in the children's area and cleaned a memorial gazebo dedicated to former patients.
St Nicholas Hospice Care provides specialist palliative care and bereavement support for people across West Suffolk and Thetford.
Kate said: "I think our company giving us two paid days a year to volunteer for charity is an excellent scheme. It shows that UK Power Networks is committed to supporting local communities and gives employees the opportunity to make a positive impact outside their day-to-day roles."
