Going the extra mile

UK Power Networks field engineer Jack Powell is going the extra mile, or rather the extra 52 miles, running two marathons to raise money for Asthma + Lung UK.

The Welham Green resident will tackle Amsterdam Marathon in October and London Marathon in April, pushing himself to the limit to support a cause close to his heart.

Living with asthma throughout his life has never stopped Jack pursuing his passion for running. Whether it is fitting in a training run after work or running to his son's football matches, he has incorporated marathon training into his everyday life.

The cause is personal for Jack, whose father was recently diagnosed with lung conditions, giving him an even greater motivation to support people affected by respiratory illnesses.

Jack will be joined on the challenge by his kids Hayden and Evie for the Amsterdam Marathon and his brother at the London Marathon.

Jack said: "This challenge is about much more than running. Living with asthma and seeing the impact lung conditions can have on my family has given me a real motivation to make a difference.

“Having my family join me in Amsterdam and my brother take on the London Marathon makes it even more special. We're proud to be raising money for a charity that supports so many people."

Claire Finigan, head of community, sporting and events at Asthma + Lung UK said: “It’s wonderful to hear about how not only Jack, but his whole family are getting involved and going the extra mile to raise money for Asthma + Lung UK. And not just one, but two marathons – incredible!

“We couldn’t continue our work supporting people with lung conditions and funding ground-breaking research without the generosity and dedication of people like Jack. Here’s wishing Jack, his brother and Evie and Hayden the very best of luck with their marathons – we’ll be cheering you on from the sidelines.”

Asthma + Lung UK support those living with lung conditions and campaigning for better respiratory health. To donate and follow Jack’s fundraising journey, please visit his GoFundMe page.
