Hospice garden’s ‘brilliant’ makeover
Gardens at St Nicholas Hospice have been spruced up by a team from a local company, for the benefit of patients and families.
A team of nine from UK Power Networks’ Connections office in Bury St Edmunds worked to refresh the gardens at the hospice’s Hardwick lane site. The team restored and re-stained outdoor furniture helping to create peaceful surroundings so that patients, families and visitors can enjoy the space in comfort.
St Nicholas Hospice Care is a local charity providing specialist medical and palliative care, alongside bereavement support for adults, children and young people. With a daily funding shortfall of around £18,000, support from volunteers and local businesses plays a vital role in helping the hospice continue to care for its community.
UK Power Networks gives all its employees two paid days a year to volunteer in the local community, and the Bury team chose to help the hospice.
Group organiser Richard Fish said: “This was a repeat visit for us and we want to make it a regular occurrence. It’s really important to us, because every single member of our team has some connection with the hospice.”
Lee Grantham, corporate fundraiser at the hospice said: “The work the team carried out was brilliant, but more than that, the time everybody all gave meant a great deal to us. UK Power Networks has sent so many teams to volunteer with us now, and that continued commitment genuinely makes a huge difference. The fact that employees choose to spend time here helping us, supporting our staff, and improving the experience for the people we care for. It is something we never take lightly. Every visit has an impact, and this was no exception.”
