Kennington club’s winter windfall
Players at Kennington Football Club are turning up the heat, thanks to new winter training tops
The club spent a £250 Team Sport Award from the local electricity network operator on long-sleeved training tops to keep the players warm this winter.
Coach Glenn Codd said: “I would like to thank UK Power Networks for their continued support of our team over the past few years."
“We have purchased new training tops for the team which the lads love and keeps them warm on these colder winter nights. The company’s support has been very much appreciated.”
This is the third sports grant the club has received from UK Power Networks, totalling £750 towards new shorts, shirts and now winter gear for the team.
Debbie Speigel, a commercial administrator in UK Power Networks’ capital programme team, applied for the funding and has a family interest in the club where her nephew, Ben Codd, is goalkeeper and her brother, Glenn is the team coach.
Debbie said: “Football has been a big part of Ben’s life so it’s nice to support my family and watch the team play. These grants have been a great way to help them out with the kit they need.”
The team train Tuesdays and play matches Sundays in Ball Lane, Ashford and has performed well this season in Division 1 of the East Kent League.
The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. In 2020 more than 60 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff benefitted from a share in £15,500.
