Leadership lights the way at UK Power Networks
UK Power Networks has been named a top employer - with the best leader too!
The company which delivers electricity across London, the East and South East came second in the Top 5 Best Big Companies to Work for 2025 list by Best Companies. It was also recently named Utility of the Year for a fifth time, and ranked #8 in the Inclusive Top 50 Employers list for 2025.
Taking Best Companies’ award for Best Leader for the second year running was Basil Scarsella, the firm’s chief executive who has worked in utilities for 25 years. Jonathan Austin, CEO of Best Companies said: “This award recognises the individual whose leadership has inspired thousands, a leader whose vision, integrity and energy truly lights the way.
“Basil leads nearly 6,500 employees who quite literally keep the lights on for London, the East and South East, and under his leadership UK Power Networks has continued to strengthen its world class culture of safety, collaboration and pride. Basil is a shining example of true engagement.”
Basil, who was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde in September for services to the energy industry, said: “It’s pleasing to have received the Best Leader award from Best Companies but the credit belongs to our dedicated 6.500 strong workforce who keep the lights on safely for some 20 million people and provide great customer service.”
In the Top 25 Best Companies to Work For, the firm was also ranked #7 for London, #3 for East of England, #6 for South East, and #2 in the Utilities sector.
The company marked its 15th year in 2025 with local barbecues this summer, plus a celebration at the iconic Natural History Museum in London.
