Luton team powers up for new season

A group of young Luton footballers are well prepared for their first competitive season with new training tops, thanks to UK Power Networks.

The Luton Celtic Under 12s, are excited after launching their team last season in division 5 and are now promoted to division 2 in the Chiltern Junior Sevens League.

The £250 Team Sport Award towards their new kit was awarded through Chris Slattery who is a surveyor based in the Borehamwood UK Power Networks office. He helps out the team coaches as his son Alfie plays.

Chris said: “The scheme is excellent. Every little helps, especially in today’s circumstances. Without this the boys probably wouldn’t have got the tops. The organisers were all over the moon and thought it was such a wonderful thing for the company to do. At this age their results will be published for the first time, so it’s truly competitive.”

The Team Sport Award scheme encourages UK Power Networks staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the Team Sport Award scheme was set up. During 2021, 77 teams were given awards adding up to a combined sum of £19,250.
