New partnerships to help half a million people
Efforts to help reduce ‘fuel poverty’ for more than half a million people by 2028, will be boosted by a new collaboration.
Four not-for-profit and social impact organisations; the National Energy Foundation, We Are Group, Citizens Advice Essex and Citizens Advice Arun & Chichester, are working with UK Power Networks towards its aim to help the most vulnerable people it delivers power to.
The partnerships will fund the charities to deliver immediate and ongoing support, tackling fuel poverty at its roots. Partners will offer a range of services tailored to customers’ individual needs. For some people this may be energy efficiency tips or support with reading their meter. For others it may be more in-depth, confidential support like assistance with applying for benefits, changing to a new tariff, or securing funding for heating upgrades. This approach aims to ensure customers are equipped with the right tools to meet their specific needs.
People will be offered both short and long-term solutions, helped to adopt more sustainable energy practices, and change their behaviour to use energy more efficiently and access a range of beneficial support services.
Matt White, head of customer service and innovation for UK Power Networks, said: “We don’t set energy bills but we do recognise the significant challenges that fuel poverty presents for our customers, so we are excited to be partnering with organisations that share our vision of a fairer, more sustainable energy future.
“By providing funding and working alongside these dedicated organisations, we will help empower them to offer tailored support to those most in need, helping to reduce energy costs and improve living conditions for vulnerable customers. Together, we will create meaningful solutions that not only provide immediate relief but also help customers’ build long-term resilience.”
Dave Evans, chief executive of the National Energy Foundation, said: "We are thrilled to be partnering with UK Power Networks in the fight against fuel poverty. This collaboration presents a unique opportunity to reach those most in need and provide vital support that can make a lasting difference in their lives.
“By working together, we can combine our resources and expertise to help vulnerable individuals and households reduce their energy costs, improve their homes and gain the confidence to manage their energy needs effectively. We're excited to join forces with UK Power Networks to create a more equitable, sustainable future for all."
The firm also runs a Priority Services Register offering free extra help to vulnerable customers during power cuts. Register online at www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority, call 0800 169 9970, or email psr@ukpowernetworks.co.uk for more information.
