New team scores a cash boost

A newly formed youngsters football team is celebrating after being given a cash award for kit and equipment.

AFC Kesgrave Under 8s were only created a few months ago at the Kesgrave club which has existed since 2007.

The £250 Team Sport Award was donated by UK Power Networks through Davin Cattermole who works as a control engineer in Ipswich and is the team’s coach. His son, Arthur, is one of its founder members.

Davin said: “I think the scheme is fantastic. It encourages staff to be active, both physically and socially. The extra funding can make a real difference to small sports clubs that are funded purely by players or parents.
“The members are all very pleased and have expressed their thanks for the grant. I think it has shone a good light on the company.”

The Under 8s will use the money to buy equipment or tracksuits.

UK Power Networks runs the Team Sport Award to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. During 2020, more than 60 teams benefitted from a total of £15,500.
