A few clicks could change how vulnerable families use electricity in their homes thanks to a new website from UK Power Networks.
The Home Energy Saver tool gives households simple, personalised tips to help them use less energy and pay less on their bills. From adjusting heating settings to upgrading lighting, it makes saving energy straightforward. Families can also find information on financial support to make improvements more affordable. The website was created as part of an innovation project with Three Hands, Sia and Explain Research, bringing together expert insights to make energy-saving advice practical and accessible.
The website guides users through a short series of questions to generate a bespoke energy-saving plan where they can learn which parts of their home are using the most energy, which habits have the biggest impact on their bills, and how small changes, like upgrading lighting or adjusting heating, can make a measurable difference. Home Energy Saver makes these lessons easy to understand and relevant to each person’s unique situation.
Customers can explore two simple calculators — one to check what financial help or grants they might be entitled to, and another to see how small changes in appliance use could make a big difference to their bills.
Home Energy Saver has been developed with customers to ensure the content is carefully curated to deliver helpful, targeted advice that meets their needs. Feedback from early users will help shape future updates to improve the innovation. UK Power Networks has also collaborated with experts across the industry to make sure Home Energy Saver meets the needs of all households, from first-time renters to long-term homeowners.
Jo Lomax, consumer vulnerability manager at UK Power Networks, said: “We know that many families are feeling the pressure of rising costs, and accessing the right support can be overwhelming."
"The Home Energy Saver gives people a simple, accessible way to understand their energy use and take practical steps to save money. By helping customers make informed choices, we're ensuring that no one is left behind as we move towards a fair and inclusive future with lower carbon emissions.”
Jan Levy, managing director at Three Hands Insight, said: “We’re really pleased to have brought in views and ideas from people with lived experience of really tough issues like fuel poverty and long-term health conditions to help UK Power Networks make this brilliant new tool as effective as possible for those who need it most.”
