Outstanding collaboration applauded at energy awards

Collaborative projects by UK Power Networks employees have been recognised for their outstanding impact on the energy sector.

Valuable contributions were celebrated at the company’s annual Living Our Values staff awards, held in London and attended by over 300 people.

The night was capped off by a musical rendition led by Electric Harmony, the company’s in-house choir.

The ‘Tremendous Team’ award was granted for all involved in planning for the 2023-2028 regulatory funding process, where UK Power Networks submitted its Business Plan to Ofgem.

This team spanned departments from finance, strategy and regulation to network operations.

Paul Measday, regulatory compliance and reporting manager based in Crawley, was part of the award-winning team. “To be part of a team award is fantastic – the trophy came from leftfield, and it is great that UK Power Networks recognises its staff for the hard work they put in,” Paul said.

“The people in these departments and the wider company make it a great place to work and to see them come together to get people’s power back on after a storm is always a great feeling. The ability to bring my wife and to hear our choir sing in a fantastic venue were all great!”

A second group were given the ‘Outstanding Non-Infrastructure Project’ award for improving connection charge policies for the business and the electricity industry.

With the nation moving closer to Net Zero and customers grow in their aim for low-carbon equipment such as heat pumps and Electric Vehicle charging points, they worked across industry to make some of the most significant changes to connection charge policy in over 40 years. Customers have said publicly and to Ofgem that UK Power Networks set the benchmark across the industry in communication and taking an innovative approach.

Martin Brace, also based out of the company’s Crawley office, is a commercial policy manager at the company’s connections department. He said: “It is very gratifying on behalf of both my team and everyone else in the company that contributed to the successful outcome of the project. It was a fantastic evening that was enjoyed by many deserving and talented people. Regardless of whether you won an award, people felt very proud to be nominated as a finalist.

“As an employee of a company that is performance-driven, you are continually looking at ways to improve the business and performance, so I think it is important that our successes are celebrated in this way.”
