Peter named ‘customer service hero’ for connection skills

Making sure new connections jobs go smoothly for customers has earned Peter Elsworth of UK Power Networks a top prize at the electricity firm’s annual awards.

Peter was named the Customer Service Hero for 2025 and described as a “true inspiration to all of his peers” at UK Power Networks’ annual Living Our Values Awards, held at The Guildhall in London and attended by 400 employees.

He was among 150 finalists selected from the 6,200-strong workforce, and the event was also a special way to mark the firm’s 15th anniversary this month (October).

The Isle of Sheppey local – who chooses to travel 60 miles every day for work – in Crawley, West Sussex, says he’s “devoted to the team.”

His colleagues who nominated him for the honour, said: “Pete is the epitome of customer service... He relates to people on every level, cuts through the jargon and becomes the support for any customer embarking on the journey for a new connection. He's truly an inspiration to all his peers.”

Peter said: “Winning the Customer Service Hero award was a great honour and achievement for me. The Crawley design team and I have strived for many years to give the customers a smooth and efficient service.

“We value the importance of trust and understanding with the customer, to ensure they feel at ease through the process of obtaining a quote for connections work. This award shows that this value is shared and recognised within the business.

“On a personal level I am very pleased that the hard work I deliver has been noticed and I’ve been commended for it. It was a very proud day and one to remember.”

Chief executive Basil Scarsella said: "Our vision of striving to be the best performing group of networks highlights the importance of Living Our Values Awards.

“Some two thousand employees were nominated by their peers for going above and beyond what is normally required. We congratulate the winners but more important we thank the 6,500 employees and their families for the value they bring to UK Power Networks every single day."
