Power grant to Bexley RFC for matchday balls
A Bexley rugby club will be able to splash out on new match balls thanks to a £300 Team Sport Award from UK Power Networks.
Bexley RFC, based at Bexley Park Sports and Social Club in Dartford, has a wide age range from Men’s First XV down to its ‘minions’ Under 6 level.
UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity to London, the East and the South East of England, has sent the funds to Bexley RFC to support with its equipment purchases as part of its Team Sport Award programme.
The scheme is run by UK Power Networks to support staff volunteering in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing grassroots sports opportunities.
Ben Shakespeare, a field engineer from Swanscombe and based in the company’s Falconwood office made the application on behalf of the club, where he plays front-row forward in the Men’s team.
Ben said: “It feels great to win this Team Sport Award. Thanks to UK Power Networks. It has helped keep our struggling club going over the last few years, as we’ve received it a few times.
“I joined the club after watching an England game there with a friend, and remembered how much fun rugby can be. The club makes people physically and mentally healthier, and it will allow other donated money to go towards other equipment we require such as new posts.”
Bexley RFC’s men’s and women’s team trains Wednesday nights from 7.30 – 9pm and play during the season on Saturday afternoons for the men and Sunday for the women’s.
Its home ground is Bexley Park Sports and Social Club in Calvert Drive, Dartford.
