Louise Angell, a senior project manager at UK Power Networks’ Letchworth office and from Dacorum, will embark on a gruelling five-day journey across the vaunted sandy expanse to raise money for CoppaFeel!, the UK’s only youth-focused breast cancer awareness charity.
Some 128 trekkers, including Louise and celebrities Giovanna Fletcher, Candice Brown, Millie Mackintosh, and Ashley James will traverse 100 kilometres from Saturday 8 November over a five-day stretch to raise money for the charity.
Louise has already smashed her £5,000 target. Dubbed CoppaTrek! by the charity, the trekkers have already raised a staggering £555,000 for the charity, reaching more than 11,000 donations.
Louise said: “I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and give back to a charity that has a personal connection with me.” She added that her diagnosis with breast cancer in June 2024 gave her a deeper understanding of the importance of early detection.
Preparation for trekking 100km across the Sahara has been rigorous. Louise said: “My training routine has been a mix of long-distance walks and hikes, plus lots of strength training to feel as ready as you can ever be to walk 100km in the desert,” Louise said. As part of her preparation, she completed a mini trek in the Cotswolds in September.
Louise added: “I’m most excited about the sunrise over the dunes—that moment of silence and vastness, alongside the other 100 strong trekkers sharing stories and experiences of their own cancer journeys.
“The community has been amazing—from sharing training tips to cheering each other on during tough days. It’s a reminder that we’re never alone in these challenges, and the camaraderie is half the magic.”
