UK Power Networks employee to run the London Marathon in honour of late mother
A UK Power Networks employee will be running the iconic London Marathon in honour of her late mother who loved watching the event live on TV.
Clair Medhurst, a project planner based in London, has finally got a place on the London Marathon lineup after five years of applying.
Clair, who lives in Rochford, Essex, will be taking part in the 2024 edition of the race in honour of her late mother, Sandie Neave, who sadly passed away.
She will be raising funds for the Havens Hospice who looked after Sandie in 2016 in her last months.
Clair is aiming to raise £1750 and after getting her place confirmed in February, she only has two months to train for the big day – but that is not discouraging her one bit.
Clair said: “I have managed to get a charity place with Havens Hospice to run the London Marathon.
“When my mum was in her last months back in 2016 the staff at Havens really helped her and my dad. I still have the little bowl she decorated and the angel she made at the craft days she attended at the hospice. My mum loved watching the London Marathon so when I joined Rochford Running Club in 2019, I tried every year to get a place with no luck.
“When I got the confirmation in February that I could run for Havens I jumped at the chance. I have a great running club and coach, so I know I can do it even with the short training window.”
Clair is hoping to complete the marathon in under 6 hours and has been taking part in regular Park Runs and other running events to prepare for the big day.
Havens Hospice care for seriously ill adults and children to help them 'Make every day count' with specialist Care Teams can support them in the comfort of their own homes and through their hospices.
Susie May, events fundraiser at Havens Hospice, said: “We don’t charge a penny for our specialist care, so it’s thanks to people like Clair raising money that we can be here to make every day count for the people who need us. We can’t thank her enough for her support, dedication, and commitment, and are looking forward to cheering her on in London on the big day!”
