UK Power Networks’ record 18 per cent pay rise offer rejected by Unite union

Members of the trade union Unite have rejected a projected 18 per cent pay rise offered by UK Power Networks, it has been confirmed.

The electricity infrastructure company proposed the offer of 18 per cent, based on current projections, alongside other benefits. These included an increase in annual leave allowance, and further paternity leave.

Unite the Union balloted its members on the offer on Tuesday 7 March and announced this afternoon that the offer had been rejected.

The offer represented the highest ever percentage increase to pay in UK Power Networks’ history.

The pay increase has already been accepted by both Unison and Prospect, who also represent employees of UK Power Networks. A fourth union, GMB, has not balloted its members.

A spokesperson for UK Power Networks said: “We believe our record offer of a projected 18 per cent pay rise and additional benefits is a fair and generous one.

We are deeply disappointed that Unite has decided to go ahead with strike action.

The offer remains on the table and we hope Unite will follow Prospect and Unison in accepting it, which we believe is in the best interests of our employees.”

UK Power Networks has reiterated that the risk of disruption to customers remains low. The company has robust contingency plans in place for all reasonable scenarios, including industrial action.
