UK Power Networks’ star employees recognised at awards night
The iconic Roundhouse in Camden, London, was the venue chosen to recognise UK Power Networks’ ‘best of the best’ employees.
Under the same roof where Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie have famously performed over the years, specialist teams who keep the lights on across London, the East and South East gathered to celebrate.
The company’s annual Living Our Values Awards saw around 200 employees from across the business recognised for going above and beyond for the Company. The 2024 ceremony was the culmination of a process that saw 1,974 employees from the 6000-strong workforce nominated by their colleagues, up 17% from 2023. Senior management whittled it down to about 200 finalists, up for a host of individual and team awards which included a range of operational and office-based accolades.
Award winners included Natalie Melloy and George Rackham who won the Fitting Duo Award for their ‘dynamic’ capabilities in equipping electricity substations, while Lee Perkins bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award for years of mentoring and developing hundreds of apprentices, and the Everyone Matters Award went jointly to Louise Parsons and Harshil Sumaria for championing diversity in the workplace.
The recently-established Distribution System Operator team won the prize for Project of the Year (non-infrastructure) for their work on publishing connections data, which helps customers understand how to apply for and plan new electrical connections.
Chief executive Basil Scarsella said: “These employees are the best of the best. The atmosphere was brilliant, they had their partners there and its recognition of everyone’s performance across the company. We aim to be an employer of choice, with teams that help each other and these awards celebrate that UK Power Networks continues to be a high performer year in year out.”
