Young footballers have the power to impress

A team of young Bury st Edmunds footballers have the power to impress thanks to a cash award from the UKs largest electricity distributor.

Keen members of the Hardwick Primary School team, the Kites, are aiming high after being granted £250 by UK Power Networks and purchasing new tops bearing the company’s logo.

The youngsters are under eight and play after school in one of the five football teams run by volunteers. They all play against other local school teams.

They were awarded the money through Richard Fish who works for UK Power Networks as a quotation delivery & planning assistant based in Bury. His role is Saturday helper and he hopes to train as a coach.
Richard said: “I think the scheme is a marvellous way of supporting the community, everyone is so pleased with the new kit.”

The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. During 2020, more than 60 teams benefitted from a total of £15,500.
