Working in your area

Find out why we are working in your area and how long the work will last.

Need to report a safety issue?
If you need to report a safety issue or a dangerous situation, please stay away from the equipment or work site and call us 24 hours a day on 0800 31 63 105 or 105 (free to call from a landline or mobile).

Why we are digging

A large amount of our electrical network is underground, particularly in large towns and cities. To work on our electrical equipment, sometimes we will need to carry out road works.

You can find out who is carrying out road works in your area and for how long by visiting the one.network website and simply entering the nearest postcode, road name or use your mobile device's location.

When we will fill in the holes that we've made

We always aim to fill in any holes which we have dug as quickly as we can. This is often done by a different team to those who carried out the repair or maintenance work. If the work is being carried out on public land, this will have to be complete before the permit expires.

Sometimes after we've completed our work to the electricity equipment, we may leave the hole open for a few days. This is to make sure the fault is fixed and doesn't reoccur. However, our specialist teams will always aim to refill the holes and put everything back to normal as soon as possible.

Delayed or over running road works

When carrying out road works, we always aim to complete our work as soon as possible. However, work does occasionally over run and this can be down to a number of reasons. Sometimes the engineering work is extensive and we need additional time to complete the work. All work on public land has to be authorised by the local authority and if we need a permit extension we will request this from the local authority first.

For more information on all of our road works on public land, please visit the one.network website and simply enter the nearest postcode, road name or use your mobile device's location. If you are unable to find the work or still have questions, please call us on 105.
