Conducting energy efficiency surveys to reduce heat escaping from customer homes
Case study
Alice lives in a 1920s semi-detached house in Merstham and contacted Energy Action Redhill Reigate because her home was very cold. The low temperatures were contributing to damp and mould in her bedroom. Energy Champions visited Alice’s house to carry out a survey and identify where improvements could be made. They found that, although she had some loft insulation, much of it was squashed, ineffective and below the recommended thickness. With our support, EARR were able to install additional loft insulation, making a significant difference to heat retention. They also discovered that the house was built with solid brick walls, which lose heat quickly. Alice was advised on options for both internal and external wall insulation and was referred to the Energy Saving Trust for further guidance. For more immediate relief, the team also provided radiator foils to reduce heat loss through the walls behind her radiators.
