Hand Arm Vibration Logging app

The Hand Arm Vibration Logging app is a digitally enabled mobile app, which will help operational field staff at UK Power Networks to record daily use of vibration tools and monitor exposure levels more accurately. The app will support compliance, improve safety oversight and give managers better information to identify and act on potential exposure risks.

Key deliverables

  • Internal mobile app for recording daily use of vibration tools
  • Automated exposure point calculations and alerts for defined thresholds
  • Management reporting and dashboards to support oversight of exposure risk
  • Secure long-term record storage (up to 40 years) with search and access capability

Target outcomes

  • Improved monitoring of vibration exposure across the workforce
  • Earlier identification of colleagues approaching or exceeding exposure thresholds
  • Reduced reliance on paper logs and improved completeness of records
  • Better information for Health & Safety teams and managers to support timely interventions

Measures of success

  • Percentage of target users recording daily tool usage or nil returns
  • Reduction in missing or incomplete HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome) exposure records
  • Number of exposure alerts generated and acted upon
  • Successful pilot and wider rollout to target user groups
  • Positive feedback from Health & Safety and field users

Stakeholder Engagement

The project has engaged Health & Safety stakeholders to understand requirements and current manual logging processes. Field staff are being involved through User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to confirm the app is practical for day-to-day use.
