A competitive market with genuine choice

The majority of connections to the low voltage network are delivered by us. At higher voltages, the majority of connections are delivered by independent connection providers. Measuring by capacity, independent connection providers deliver approximately 75% of new connections.

Ofgem divide the connections market into different segments.  Minor connections are deemed to be in a non-competitive segment, but metered connections are divided up into six market segments according to voltage and whether demand or generation; there are also a further three unmetered market segments (typically highway lighting).

We actively support competition. This is very well developed, particularly at higher voltages.

Customers have genuine choice over who completes their connection.
