Smart Route v2

Smart Route V2 will create a single map-based planning platform that brings together project, design, street works, land and stakeholder information. This will improve coordination across teams, reduce manual effort and help deliver capital projects more efficiently and consistently for customers and stakeholders.

Key deliverables

  • An enhanced Smart Route platform providing one shared map-based view of project, design, street works, land and stakeholder information
  • Integration with key project systems so teams can access documents, live reporting and street works information more easily
  • Improved land registry, consents and stakeholder data to support better planning and coordination
  • Digital CAD functionality to support the review and management of project designs
  • Controlled user access for internal teams, contractors and partners
  • Rollout and transition support to help teams adopt Smart Route V2 and move away from Smart Route V1

Target outcomes

  • Teams will be able to work from one shared view of the information needed to plan and deliver network projects
  • Project teams will have better access to up-to-date information about designs, land, street works and stakeholders
  • Planning activity will become more joined up, reducing duplicated effort and avoidable delays
  • Customers and communities should benefit from more coordinated and efficient delivery of planned works

Measures of success

  • Improved visibility of project progress, street works activity and key delivery information
  • Reduced manual handling and duplicated data entry across design, survey and delivery teams
  • Increased use of the shared platform by relevant project teams
  • Improved efficiency in preparing and approving project designs
  • Reduction in project delays caused by data inconsistencies or coordination issues

1Streetworks

1Streetworks is a browser-based traffic management planning tool that brings together Street Manager, local authority and geospatial data to generate safe, consistent, Red Book-compliant plans in 1–3 minutes for around 85% of cases. It helps UK Power Networks deliver planned, customer-facing and reactive works more efficiently while reducing manual effort and disruption.

PULSE (Patterns of Usage and Load for Support Evaluation)

PULSE develops a first-of-its-kind, evidence-based method to understand whether fuel-poverty support is leading to lasting improvements for customers. By analysing changes in household energy-use patterns after support is provided, the project will help UK Power Networks target future vulnerability programmes more effectively. Ultimately, PULSE aims to enhance the targeting and impact of future vulnerability programmes.
